Managing Your Book Inventory

2 min read

To exchange books with other users, you first need to list the books you are willing to part with. We call these “Offers.”

1. Adding Books to Your Library (Creating an Offer) #

You can list a book from your Dashboard by clicking “Create Offer” or by visiting the Offer page directly.

  • The Listing Form: You will need to provide standard details to help others find your book:
    • Book Details: Title, Author, and Publisher.
    • Category: Select the correct Genre (e.g., Fiction, Academic) and Language.
    • Photos: You must upload at least one clear photo of the book (Front Cover). You can add up to 5 additional photos to show the spine or specific pages.
    • Location: Enter your City and State so local users can find you for potential pickups.

2. Book Valuation: How the System Prices Your Book #

One of the most unique features of LitAmb is our flexible pricing system. When listing a book, you have two choices:

  • Automatic Pricing (Recommended): If you leave the “Asking Points” field blank, our algorithm will automatically calculate a fair value for your book.
    • Formula: Base Value (100) × Genre Multiplier × Condition Multiplier.
    • Example: A “Rare” book in “Like New” condition will be valued significantly higher than a standard “Fiction” paperback in “Fair” condition.
  • Manual Pricing: If you feel your book is worth a specific amount, you can manually enter an “Asking Points” value.
    • Negotiation: You can check the “Allow price negotiation” box to let buyers suggest a lower price.

3. Understanding Book Conditions #

To ensure fairness, every book must be graded accurately. The condition you select directly affects the automatic point value of your book:

  • Like New (1.5x Multiplier): The book is perfect. No marks, bent pages, or spine creases.
  • Good (1.0x Multiplier): Shows some signs of wear but is clean and intact. Standard used condition.
  • Fair (0.7x Multiplier): Readable copy. May have highlighted text, notes, or noticeable wear on the cover.
  • Poor (0.4x Multiplier): Heavily worn. May have loose pages or water damage, but the text is legible. Ideal for rare books that are hard to find otherwise.
